Chamber Choir Ireland juxtapose Bach with contemporary composers Julia Wolfe, Santa Ratniece and Anne Boyd

Paul Hillier Conductor

The third programme of the Before Bach and After series will feature a stunning programme that alternates two Bach motets, a cantata and a fugue, this concert also features contemporary works by Julia Wolfe, Santa Ratniece and Anne Boyd as well as a vocal re-working of Bach’s Fuga V, shifting the focus of the texts and indeed the musical inspiration significantly beyond and away from the Western tradition.

Programme

J.S. Bach Komm Jesu Komm
Anne Boyd As I crossed a bridge of dreams
J.S. Bach Fuga V (from Wohl-Temperiertes Klavier. II) Julia Wolfe Guard my tongue
J.S. Bach Zion hört die Wächter singen

Santa Ratniece Horo Horo Hata Hata J.S. Bach Lobet den Herrn

“The effect of the music is disturbingly moving. ….Under Hillier the choir sang as to the manner born”
