Belltable Connect presents a ‘work-in-progress’ reading of Bread Not Profits, a new play by Mike Finn inspired by the Limerick Soviet of 1919.

In a bold move which made global headlines, the Limerick Soviet saw the workers of Limerick take over the city for 10 days, organising food and fuel distribution, printing their own newspaper and, uniquely, issuing their own currency.

Bread Not Profits, written by Mike Finn (Pigtown, The Unlucky Cabin Boy) and directed by Terry O’Donovan (On The Wire, I Do) is inspired by those events and is being developed as part of Mike Finn’s year long residency at the Belltable.

It is planned to premier the play in 2019 as part of the centenary of the Limerick Soviet.
