John MacKenna is the author of nineteen books – novels, short-story collections; poems; memoir; biography and children’s books. He has also written a dozen plays for stage and radio.
A native of Co Kildare, he was educated at St Clement’s College Limerick and UCD. Having taught for a number of years he worked as a senior producer and presenter in RTE for twenty-three years. He currently teaches creative writing at NUI Maynooth. He is a winner of the Irish Times, Hennessy and C Day Lewis Awards as well as a Jacobs Radio Award for his documentaries with Leonard Cohen.

His most recent publication is Once We Sang Like Other Men (New Island)
