Shakespeare in the Glen presents

Playboy of the Western World

by J.M. Synge

Lime Tree Theatre | Fri, March 1st | 8pm | €15

“…there’s a great gap between a gallous story and a dirty deed.” J.M. Synge

Synge’s satirical masterpiece opened to riots 111 years ago as he bravely held a mirror up to Ireland in all its contradictions. In Shakespeare in the Glen’s new vivid production the piercing social commentary of 1907 still resonates strongly today.

In a society where instant celebrity is only a click away and viral success is the Promised Land for many, Synge’s hilariously satirical commentary on turn of the century Ireland is never more relevant than it is today.
