Townhouse Café @ Belltable | Jan 17th & 18th | 8pm | €18/€16
Following the success of Raccoon, Goodnight Irene and A Game Called Lucy Finally Wins, Julie Sharkey returns with her latest one women show The Three Fat Women of Antibes, an adaptation of the short story by W. Somerset Maugham (Of Human Bondage, The Moon and Sixpence, The Razor’s Edge)
Set in 1955 The Three Fat Women of Antibes is a story about three best friends who diet. The friends decide to take a summer house at Antibes. A visitor arrives. The best friends become uneasy when they see how slim she is. Through the tension of eating anti-fat rusks while the visitor eats croissants and thick cream the ladies grow weak and begin to despise each other.
“I can’t help thinking if she really cared for her husband she would hardly eat so much”
Perfect for all friends and food lovers, this delicious story is a familiar tale of friendships put under pressure, food appreciation and the joys of chocolate eclairs.
The Three Fat Women of Antibes is a fiercely witty, acerbic story with real heart.
